This two day experience will immerse participants in the rich history and culture of the Gullah/Geechee and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through interactive kiosk and activities. NBAF's Youth Docents will travel with the replica home -which was created by Paul Thomasson from Spelman College's drama department- to Penn Center and recreate the interactive experience at the 27th Heritage Days Celebration.
Events for the tour are as follows:
Thursday, November 12th: Tour will depart from Auburn Avenue Research Library in Atlanta at 6 PM. While traveling by coach from Atlanta to South Carolina, participants will view a variety of films about Dr. King and the Gullah/Geechee and Sea Island culture. Participants will receive a variety of curriculum resources appropriate for classroom use.
Friday, November 13th: Participants will visit the Penn Center and experience the 27th Annual Penn Center Heritage Days Celebration--the annual celebration of the Gullah/Geechee community.
Saturday, November 14th: Participants will visit the Penn Center and experience the 27th Annual Penn Center Heritage Days Celebration, the annual cultural celebration of the Gullah/Geechee community. Tour will depart from Penn Center at approximately 5 PM and arrive in Atlanta at approximately 11 PM. While travelling by coach from South Carolina to Atlanta participants will view a variety of films about Dr. King and the Gullah/Geechee and Sea Island culture.
NBAF is offering five (5) Professional Learning Units (PLU's) for educators.Educators must pre-register for the Study Tour, participate in a pre-departure class session, and complete a course assignment and presentation to receive the five (5) PLU's.
Cost: $150.00 per person (includes transportation, NBAF membership, lodging and admissions)
